Biography

The oldest of three brothers, Eric Close was born in Staten Island, N.Y on May 24, 1967. The family moved to Indiana and Michigan before settling down in San Diego, California., when Close was seven. He began performing in plays as a child, but resisted the impulse to seek out a career as an actor until he graduated from the University of Southern California in 1989 with a B.A. in communications.

Following graduation, Close supported himself with appearances in commercials until he performed in a small theater production of Rat Songs, which earned him an agent.

Work followed. Close landed his first speaking role playing as a prisoner in the Edward Olmos-starrer American Me, but his biggest successes to date have come on television. Series roles have included Sawyer Walker on NBC's Santa Barbara; Brick McKenna in ABC's McKenna; a recurring role as a police officer on NBC's Sisters; federal agent John Loengard in NBC's paranormal drama Dark Skies; the outstanding role of Vin Tanner in The Magnificent Seven", and also, Michael Wiseman is the Scifi series, "Now and Again."

Eric Close had this to say abot his role of Michael Wiseman: I read the script and went, 'Wow!' I was blown away by it. I'd done a few series before where everything's sort of neatly tied together at the end of every episode, and the villain's usually killed. I was accustomed to that. Here I get to the end and ask, 'What happens?' So when I met with Glenn, I asked him that question. Glenn went on and on and basically came full circle to say to me, 'To be honest, I have no idea where it's going to go and I'm going to leave it at that.'

"I went home going, 'Ah, I want to know and he wouldn't tell me.' Then as I thought about it, I realized I was so intrigued, I loved it so much and I realized this wasn't what I was used to. It was different and exciting. I called and we talked a little bit further about it and I said, 'I really want to do this.' And so, we moved forward. And honestly, I don't know what's going to happen with my character. Every day is a new discovery and that is really exciting."

Close has also appeared in the TV movies Without Consent, The Stranger Beside Me, Hercules and the Lost Kingdom, Long Island Fever and Keeping Secrets. In addition to American Me, Close's other feature film work includes Taking Liberty, and Safe House, an American Film Institute production; The Sky Is Falling; Follow the Stars Home and he has hosted a couple of documentaries - Amazing Treasures 1 & 2.
