Passwords
I’m sure you have a great many questions. Let me see if I can answer them.
To obtain a password you need to follow the procedure outlined.
# Why passwords?
(a) I’m a teacher and I’d rather my students and their parents weren’t reading my work. Passwords mean I can screen who is reading.
(b) A number of years ago I was viciously flamed. I made the mistake of responding and have been harrassed since. For a while I left the fandom and when I returned I simply didn’t post anywhere apart from on one safe Yahoo Group. In an effort to share with friends outside the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group, I now offer new and old friends passwords.
# Three types of stories
You will notice these coloured spots next to each story.
  
: Open stories are available to everyone. They are not password protected. There is one Old West, one LB and one Em7 story in this category.
: Casual passwords allow you to access all of the stories I wrote before Dec 2007. If you join my Update list, I will post links for new stories every few months. These stories will remain active for a month and then be removed.
: Full access means just that. You have access to all of my stories, all of the time. To obtain full access, you need to be someone I know well… someone who has (or is) keeping in contact with me and sending support and encouragement. Some new friends who start out with a Casual password may be given Full Access after time.
# How do I get a password?

here. If you do not use this letter, your request will be deleted. If you do not agree with what is said in the letter, don't send it in the first place.

I understand that
(a) it may take some time for my request to be processed and I will only send a second request if I don't hear from you for four weeks.
(b) that it is your right to choose who you share your stories with and therefore I must not share my password with ANYONE.
(c) for you, being a part of the fandom is about fun, sharing your stories and communicating with other fans to keep the boys riding... and while you are happy to invest time in friends who feel the same way (10 mins to set up an account and 5 mins every month to maintain it), you will simply delete the accounts of those who are only requesting a password for the free enteraintment.
(d> Acknowledging I've read your story takes ten seconds and isn't investing anything into the friendship so I can expect my account to be deleted. I understand that friendship is about both parties contributing something so If I want to maintain a friendship with you, I understand that I need to invest some time as well. Eg. chatting about the boys or sending detailed feedback.
(d) the reason you protect yourself with passwords is because you've been flamed before and don't want your students to have access to them. While I may think this is overkill, I understand that this is how it has to be and I won't complain about it.
(e) you decide what level of access I receive and this will be based on the amount of time I'm willing to invest into our freindship.

Yep, it’s that simple. Please be aware I am not a corporation with secretaires who do this work. (g) It is just me… one Mag 7 fan. When life is busy, I may not be able to get to your request for a month or two. Please be patient.
To my flamer and her friends - I can now spot your ISPs, so there is no way you will get a password. Go away.
# How long can I have a password?
The only way I can tell if you still want your password is if I hear from you. If I don’t hear from you, I’ll assume you no long want your password. Every few months I hope to post a new story or two. The links will be posted on my Update List. These links will remain active for one month. So the easiest way to maintain your access is to drop me a note after you read a new story so we can chat about it and the boys. I’d love to know what you thought.
# What happens if my password is deactivated and I still want it?
I have come to the conclusion that being a part of the fandom is about fun. Your fun as well as mine. I choose to communicate with you via my stories if you choose to communicate with me. If you choose not to communicate with me or can’t find the time, I choose not to find the time to communicate with you. Sound fair? I think so. Maintaining a password takes me about 5 mins per month… not a lot. However, if I have 200 people with passwords that is over 16 and a half hours I need to find to maintain passwords every four weeks. I don’t mind taking time to invest in friends if they take time to invest in me.
So, I’m happy to reactivate passwords once. After that, it stops being fun… and I’m here to have fun.
I ask that you do not share your password with anyone. My service provider is able to check this for me if I suspect something.
# What happens if my password isn’t working?
(a) If you haven’t communicated with me for a few months, then your account has probably been deactivated. If it is the first time, email me and I’ll reactivate it.
(b) The site may be down. Give it an hour and try again.
(c) If it still isn’t working, email me. However, be aware it may be a while before I get back to you.
# Final Word
# Thank you to all who have been so patient, supportive and understanding. Since 2004 I have waged a battle with my confidence due to persistent harassment. I have tried a few different ways to circumnavigate those harassing me. I’m confident I’ve got it right now.
# Em7 Episodes – at the moment only Eps 1 and 2 are available to anyone. I’m in the process of editing the others. Ep 3 is finished and should be reposted soon. Join my update list for regular updates on my progress.
# If you don’t like what I’ve said or don’t like my new system, no problem. There are hundreds of other authors who have written thousands of stories. Please go and enjoy them and leave me to enjoy a very small section of the fandom. Don’t bother sending complaints. I just delete them.
# To all of my friends on the Vin Fanfic and Discussion Group(current and former)… I will never be able to repay your kindness. You have given me back my confidence and the joy I find in writing.
